Cultural festivals in Sri lanka

Sri Lanka is a country rich in cultural and religious diversity, and its festivals reflect the traditions and beliefs of its people. Festivals like Vesak Poya, Kandy Esala Perahera, and Sinhala and Tamil New Year are widely celebrated with great enthusiasm.


Vesak Poya marks the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of Lord Buddha, and is celebrated with lanterns, decorations, and acts of charity. The Kandy Esala Perahera is a grand cultural procession featuring decorated elephants, dancers, and drummers, honoring the Sacred Tooth Relic. The Sinhala and Tamil New Year is a time for family gatherings, traditional foods, and joyful celebrations.

Other important festivals include Thai Pongal, Deepavali, and Christmas, which are celebrated by different communities across the country.

 The most valuable thing in my life is my family. My family consists of my mother, my father, and my two elder sisters. The five of us lived very happily together since my childhood. My family is very fun-loving and full of joy. Speaking about my mother, her name is L.D. Nirosha Sajeewani, and she is 56 years old. She works as a preschool teacher and is a very loving and caring mother to me. When I talk about my father, it is very emotional for me. When I was 10 years old, my father passed away due to a sudden accident. Because of that, whenever I remember the bond I had with him, I feel an indescribable sadness.
