Traditional Anklets

Kandyan dance is one of the most famous traditional dance forms in Sri Lanka. In this dance, the costume worn by the dancers is very special, and one important part of it is the silambu.

Silambu are small metallic anklets worn around the dancer’s feet. They are usually made of metal such as brass and produce a rhythmic sound when the dancer moves.

The sound of the silambu adds rhythm and beauty to the dance. It helps to highlight the dancer’s foot movements and makes the performance more attractive and lively. In Kandyan dance, the sound of the silambu is very important.

Silambu also help dancers to maintain proper timing and coordination in their movements. They guide the dancer’s steps and improve the overall performance.

For the last, although silambu are a simple part of the costume, they play a very important role by adding rhythm, sound, and beauty to the Kandyan dance.
